Kanpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the 54th convocation ceremony of IIT-Kanpur.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday intensified his attack on the Samajwadi Party, saying the "itr (perfume) of corruption sprayed before 2017 has come into the open". Hinting at ties between SP and the Kanpur-based businessman from whom crores of rupees were seized recently, Modi said, "They (SP leaders) are not coming forward to take credit for the briefcases full of currency notes seen by the entire country. This is their achievement and reality."

Modi was in Kanpur to inaugurate the first phase of the metro rail project in the city which prompted SP chief Akhilesh Yadav to say that its foundation stone was laid during his tenure. Earlier too, Yadav had called the Purvanchal Expressway "SP's work".

"The parties that are corrupt and respect bahubalis (mafia) cannot develop Uttar Pradesh. They have a problem with every step taken to strengthen the society, be it the strict law against triple talaq or the matter of equalising the age of marriage for men and women," Modi said.

The BJP has been prompt to link Piyush Jain, the perfume manufacturer raided recently, with the SP, calling him the man behind the "Samajwadi Attar (perfume) " that was launched by the party last month. While the man who launched the SP perfume is Pushparaj Jain, Pampi Jain, SP MLC from Kannauj, the BJP has been trying to cast him as a friend of Piyush Jain - a charge that both Pampi and the party have denied squarely. Local reports have said while both stay in the same locality in Kannauj, they are not known to each other.

For SP, A for Apraadh (Crime), B for Bhaai-Bhatijavaad' (nepotism), says Shah
Continuing the BJP onslaught on the main opposition party in Uttar Pradesh, Union home minister Amit Shah, addressing in rally in Hardoi, said, "For Samajwadi Party, it's A for Apraadh (crime), B for Bhaai-Bhatijavaad' (nepotism) and C for 'Corruption'.
