Mamata Banerjee eyes alliance with Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh polls

The Mamata Banerjee-led party has already launched a mass contact programme in the poll-bound state and is likely to launch more initiatives as the elections come closer.
Sources in Akhilesh Yadav's camp suggest that an alliance could be feasible, considering the rapport shared between the Samajwadi Party leader and the West Bengal Chief Minister. A decision is expected in the coming weeks.
"Besides, she is now an opposition mascot who crushed communal forces in her state against all odds. Her campaign in UP will certainly boost the opposition in general," a Samajwadi Party source told IANS.
The Trinamool Congress' state President, Neeraj Rai, extolled the party's victory against the BJP in the last elections.
"The party has added 100 committed members in more than 30 districts through the membership drive launched in May. The party leadership wants a strong unit in UP with a committed workforce ahead of the 2024 General Elections. Wherever we go, people want to know how we defeated the BJP in West Bengal," Rai told IANS.
