Former IPS officer Asim Arun joins BJP

Welcoming Arun in the party, BJP UP chief Swatantra Dev Singh said Arun has worked to augment the respect for the Dalits, backward and deprived classes.

Former IPS officer Asim Arun, who applied for voluntary retirement scheme last week, joined BJP on Sunday. He will be projected as a Dalit face and a youth model by the party. Additionally, two Samajwadi Party MLCs- Ghanshyam Lodhi and Shailendra Pratap Singh, former BSP MLA Om Prakash and former IAS officer and BSP leader Ram Bahadur also joined BJP later in the evening. In his most recent stint, Arun was the Commissioner of police in Kanpur and had nine years of service left ahead of him. He has also been the IG of the Anti Terrorist Squad and had led the encounter of suspected ISIS terrorist Saifullah in Lucknow in 2017.
