Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday said while the friendship between Congress and CPI-M was in public domain, the Tipra Motha party had a secret understanding with the Left party.

Addressing rallies in Tripura, Shah said, "While communists and Congress are together publicly, Motha is doing it secretly; voting for Motha means voting for the communists... giving mandate to the communists means bringing back the days of unrest."

He said: "The 'cadre rule' of the communists has been replaced by the 'constitutional rule' of BJP. We have ended the environment of fear, and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modiji has made Tripura a truly developed state. Congress and the communists have ruled here for around 50 years, but there has been no development at all. Neither the tribal people nor the other vulnerable sections of the society were empowered."
