Tripura: EC suspends official for defacing PM Modi’s poster

Tripura Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gitte Kirankumar Dinkarrao inquired into the matter and then suspended Ajoy Das, Superintendent of Fisheries Department. Das could not give proper reply to the show cause.

The Election Commission on Tuesday suspended a Tripura official for defacing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s face in a poster during the defacement activity .

Ruling BJP had lodged complaint with South Tripura district magistrate. Tripura Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gitte Kirankumar Dinkarrao inquired into the matter and then suspended Ajoy Das, Superintendent of Fisheries Department. Das could not give proper reply to the show cause.


An official in the state election Commission said that Das who was sector officer Sabroom Assembly Constituency acted beyond the provision of the MCC. Magistrate is asked to initiate process for disciplinary proceedings as per provision of relevant rule against Das.

An official statement stated Das went to a shop of a person and covered the PM's face with black ink on the poster of the Prime Minister.
