IANSHINDI
Even two days after the BJP rode back to power in Tripura, the party is yet to reveal who will be the chief minister. The new council of ministers will be sworn in on March 8.

Although the BJP fought the Assembly election under the leadership of chief minister Manik Saha, it did not say who would lead the government if voted to power again. Among the names doing the rounds for the chief minister's post is that of minister of state Pratima Bhoumik.

Bhoumik, a Lok Sabha MP from West Tripura constituency, contested from the Dhanpur assembly seat-often identified as a Marxist citadel--and won. In 2018, she had lost to former chief minister Manik Sarkar. The fact that she was fielded from this seat in the Assembly polls has fuelled speculation that she is in the race for the top post.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is the convenor of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), reached Tripura's capital Agartala on Saturday. He said, "Swearing of Tripura will take place on March 8, while in Nagaland and Meghalaya it will take place on March 7."

Sarma said he is looking to work with Tipra Motha Party (TMP) sans its demands of a separate state.
