Left parties and the Congress will soon come up with a common minimum programme in Tripura where they have a deal on seat sharing for the February 16 assembly elections, CPM state secretary Jitendra Chiowdhury said.

The Left Front in its manifesto has promised maximum possible autonomy to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.

Releasing the manifesto, Chowdhury said the BJP government at the Centre had kept pending the 125th amendment of the Constitution, but continued to give tall promises for the welfare of the tribals.

The 125th amendment provides for the administration of tribal areas in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram to safeguard the rights of the tribal population and their socioeconomic development.

The CPM has its candidates in 43 of the state's 60 assembly constituencies, while the other Left Front constituents - Forward Bloc, RSP and the CPI - are contesting one seat each. The Left Front is also supporting an independent in the Ramnagar constituency. The Congress is fighting 13 seats as per the seat-sharing agreement.
