In Telangana the Grand Old Party AIMIM led by Asaduddin Owaisi regain confidence

The latest election trend in Telangana not only shows the Congress Party's resurrection against the ruling BRS but also the Grand Old Party regaining the confidence of the significant Muslim community in the State. The fact Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM is trailing in some of its sitting seats further underscores the impression of a notable shift in the Muslim votes in favour of the Congress in Telangana.

Traditionally the AIMIM held its grounds in about 7 to 8 seats in the Old Hyderabad city. The trend showing the AIIMIM now leading only in about 4 seats shows Owaisi and his party are risking the possibility of reversals in their own citadel.

This comes in the backdrop of the Telangana Congress conducting a campaign blitzkrieg by alleging Owaisi-led AIMIM was in a deal with the BJP to divide the Muslim votes to the advantage of the Saffron party and to the disadvantage of the Congress.


If AIIMIM indeed loses some its sitting seats in the final count, it can not only hit the party prospects in Owaisi' s home State but can also hit his appeal in other States where AIIMIM is trying to expand.

In Telangana the Muslims account for about 13% voters and it is considered that the community has a large and medium influences in about 30 to 40 Assembly seats. Barring the nine seats it was contesting, the AIMIM extended support to the BRS in the remaining 110 seats. The All visible meltdown of BRS also marks a major setback for Owaisi-led AIMIM.
