Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is currently delivering a political earthquake in Tamil Nadu, emerging as the single largest party in the 234-member Assembly and disrupting the decades-long dominance of the DMK and the AIADMK.

Early trends showed TVK leading in 83 seats, ahead of the DMK’s 56 and the AIADMK’s 50, marking a stunning debut performance for Vijay’s fledgling party and signalling a dramatic reshaping of the state’s political landscape.

Vijay himself was leading in both Tiruchi East and Perambadur, turning the spotlight firmly on the actor whose entry into politics had sparked massive curiosity across the state.


The trends suggested that anti-incumbency against the ruling DMK and a fragmented opposition vote helped TVK emerge as a formidable third force — and potentially the central player in government formation.

For decades, Tamil Nadu politics has largely revolved around the DMK and AIADMK. But the latest verdict indicated that Vijay’s mass appeal, youth connect and aggressive campaign may have cracked the Dravidian duopoly faster than many political observers anticipated.
