Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President Vijay waves to the crowd from his father's residence as his party leads during vote counting for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, in Chennai on Monday.
Chennai: As the TVK emerges as the single largest party in Tamil Nadu, leading in 107 constituencies, the party is putting plans in place to form the government, sources told ET.

"We have been asked to report to the TVK office in Panaiyur in Chennai on Tuesday," a TVK candidate who won from West Tamil Nadu told ET on condition of anonymity. "There is no plan for any resort or anything as we have won over 100 seats. We don't have further details at the moment and are unsure of the next steps."

Talks with the BJP appear unlikely, as Vijay has categorically stated that the BJP is the TVK's ideological opponent. The BJP had won one seat as of 8:30 pm. Another TVK source said the party could initiate talks with the AIADMK but was holding back for now. The Congress, which was leading in five seats, could be a potential partner, the source added.

"It is very likely that we will engage in discussions with the TVK," a Congress member said.

Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said he spoke to Vijay and congratulated him on the party's "spectacular" result.

"This mandate reflects the rising voice of youth which cannot, and will not, be ignored," he said in a post on X. "My heartfelt thanks to the Congress workers of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for their hard work and support. I reiterate that the Congress party will continue to protect and serve the people of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry."

Meanwhile, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday conceded defeat and said the DMK's journey would continue.

"We bow to and accept the verdict of the people. Congratulations to the victors! Over the past five years, we have created numerous projects and delivered good governance to the people of Tamil Nadu. We have elevated Tamil Nadu in every way. In the electoral arena, we sought votes by recounting our achievements. We campaigned for votes to ensure the continuation of the welfare schemes we delivered to the people," Stalin said in a post on X.
