Tamil Nadu poll result 2026: Vijay’s ‘Lights, Camera, Sarkar’ set to shine in Chennai, say trends
Tamil Nadu’s 2026 counting trends settled into a clear picture, and noted a shift in the state’s political balance. Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has moved ahead as the single largest party in early trends, putting both DMK and AIADMK under visible pressure in several regions.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) delivered a political earthquake in Tamil Nadu, emerging as the single largest party in the 234-member Assembly and disrupting the decades-long dominance of the DMK and the AIADMK.

In early counting trends, TVK led in 101 seats, AIADMK in 69 seats and DMK in 39 seats, with the remaining leads scattered among smaller parties.

The spread of leads suggested a wide footprint for TVK rather than isolated pockets. Early trends showed the party performing across Chennai, western industrial belts, parts of the Cauvery delta and sections of southern Tamil Nadu, cut into ground that has traditionally been split between DMK and AIADMK.

Some of the more closely watched constituencies also showed early movement. In Kolathur, initial rounds had TVK’s V.S. Babu ahead of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. In Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni, Udhayanidhi Stalin trailed in early counting and eventually lost.

What stands out in the early count is not just the number of leads, but their distribution. The party is visible across urban, semi-urban and rural constituencies, rather than being concentrated in a single region.

What the early trends indicate

The count unfolded and margins shifted round by round. But the pattern showed a three-way contest where TVK moved into a strong lead position, as DMK and AIADMK trailed in different pockets.
