NDA seals Tamil Nadu seat pact: ADMK gets 178, BJP 27

Chennai: The NDA on Monday finalised its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, with the AIADMK set to contest 178 seats and the BJP 27 out of the total 234 constituencies. Other alliance partners have also been allocated seats, with the PMK getting 18 and the AMMK 11.

The announcement came after Union minister and BJP in-charge for Tamil Nadu, Piyush Goyal, visited Chennai on Monday to hold crucial discussions ahead of the April 23 assembly elections. His visit followed AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami's meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi regarding alliance strategy and seat allocation.

Under the seat-sharing arrangement, the BJP has secured seven more seats than it did in 2021 - one less than the Congress, which is contesting in alliance with the ruling DMK.


Goyal said the people of Tamil Nadu would reject the DMK-Congress combine, just as voters in Maharashtra, Haryana, Bihar, and Delhi rejected the INDIA bloc. "We will launch a fight against the DMK and its allies, who have taken Tamil Nadu into difficult times due to incompetent economic management and actions that hurt Tamil culture. People are fed up with the DMK and Congress," he said.

Goyal added that people are seeking good governance, development-oriented politics, a better future, and greater opportunities for youth and women. He asserted that Tamil Nadu is ready for a government under the NDA, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, and that people want an AIADMK-led government that delivers development for all sections.

Palaniswami said discussions within the alliance went smoothly and confirmed that the numbers have been finalised. He added that detailed seat allocations would be announced soon. Expressing confidence in the alliance's prospects, he described the NDA as a "victory alliance" and asserted that it would win across the state, with the AIADMK forming the government.
