With Assembly elections likely to be announced within a month, the BJP has begun identifying constituencies it plans to contest in Tamil Nadu as part of its alliance with the AIADMK and other NDA partners.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, the BJP had contested 20 seats and won four. This time, the party is seeking a larger share in the seat-sharing arrangement, focusing on regions where it believes it has built a stronger organisational and voter base.

The BJP has shortlisted eight of the 10 Assembly constituencies in Coimbatore district, which it considers a key stronghold. The party has also identified Kanyakumari district as another priority area following its improved performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Out of the six Assembly constituencies in Kanyakumari district, the BJP finished second in five segments during the Lok Sabha polls and has included these seats in its list of probable constituencies.

According to party sources, the shortlist largely comprises Assembly segments where the BJP emerged as runner-up in the 2024 parliamentary elections, reflecting a data-driven approach to seat selection.

In Chennai, the party has identified four seats falling under the South Chennai Lok Sabha constituency. In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the BJP finished second in South Chennai, pushing the AIADMK to third place.

Senior state leaders have been deployed to these constituencies to assess ground-level feedback, organisational strength and local political dynamics.
