JHALAWAR: Thousands of men and boys wearing T-shirts with his face on them was the sight which greeted Congress candidate Manvendra Singh when he reached Pidawa village in his constituency Jhalrapatan for a roadshow and public address late afternoon on Monday. Just a day prior to campaigning officially coming to a halt, Singh spent the day doing roadshows in Sunel, Hemda, Pirawa and Raipur. He was accompanied by former CM of Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh.

“It is true that he is a parachute candidate, but we are extremely hopeful that Manvendra will bring about a wave of change in our area which has been missing in the BJP reign. There has been absolutely no development at ground level. An airport has been constructed at Jhalawar but how does that benefit the farmers and the unemployed youth here? What we need is water, electricity and jobs which are currently lacking here,” said Raghunath Parmer, a local supporter of Congress.

Ishrar Hussein, another local added, “My village Mohammadpura which is just couple of kilometres from Pidawa has no roads and during monsoons, the children are unable to go school because the entire area is flooded. I do not see that as development. There is rampant corruption in the system here.”

Calling himself a ‘sainik’ working for the welfare of the people Manvendra, addressing the public said, “I do not come here as a political leader but as a soldier or a footman who has come to develop this constituency. I have been to the villages in the area and am shocked that in spite of this being CM’s constituency, there has been zero development and the reason is that all of us have been taken for granted. That will change, and I am glad that you all have accepted me as your own.”

Interacting with the locals in the 2.5-km-long roadshow, the Congress leaders reinstated their promise of development and Acharya Pramod Krishnam who was also part of Manvendra’s campaign, added, “Manvendra is like Hanuman who has come to rescue the people of this constituency from the dismal life which they are leading right now.”
