Rajasthan elections: BJP’s list of candidates not before November 11

The BJP’s first list of candidates is unlikely to come before November 11 when the party’s central election committee (CEC) is scheduled to meet in New Delhi.

Fifteen senior party leaders have been tasked with gathering feedback on probables at the district headquarters and reporting the same to the party’s state election in - charge, Prakash Javadekar, who will later submit it to Amit Shah.

“The party’s state core committee, including Javadekar and chief minister Vasundhara Raje, will attend the CEC meeting with Shah,” said a BJP leader. For Rajasthan, which goes to the polls on December 7, the notification will be issued on November 2 and the last date of filing nominations will be November 19.


“This year the nomination process is a little complicated. We are left with little time as we need to train our candidates. So, the party will finalise the list at the earliest,” said Javadekar.

The state core committee on Wednesday submitted a list of 96 ‘unopposed’ candidates. But, party chief Amit Shah has reportedly asked senior leaders to come up with at least three probables on each seat. “Shah wanted 2-3 names in the panel as the names shortlisted by the state panel didn’t match the findings of Shah’s own internal survey,” said a BJP functionary.
