JAIPUR: The Congress is likely to release the first list of candidates for Rajasthan assembly election by October 22, for which its screening committee headed by Kumari Selja has sought recommendations from the 44-member pradesh election committee (PEC).

The state goes to the polls on December 7. “If the recommendation of PEC members matches the names proposed by the secretary in charge, the party will finalise those tickets.

“The results of ground survey will also be taken into account,” a senior Congress functionary said on condition of anonymity. “If the party gives a ticket on recommendation of a PEC member then that member will have to take responsibility of winning that seat.”

Selja said the party will give importance to the feedback of PEC members before finalising tickets.

“We are meeting every member in person to seek advice. We want to be sure about the ‘winnability’ of candidates from all the angles. We will soon finalise the candidates’ list,” she said on Friday, during a trip to Jaipur.
