Congress releases first list of candidates for Rajasthan elections; CM Ashok Gehlot to contest from Sardarpura
The Congress party on Saturday released the first list of its candidates consisting 33 names for the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will contest from Sardarpura constituency and Sachin Pilot has been fielded from his traditional Tonk constituency. Congress state unit president Dotasra will contest from Lachchmangarh. Speaker CP Joshi will fight from Nathdwara, Minister Harish Choudhary from Baytoo assembly seat, and Divya Maderna will contest from Osian. Krishna Poonia is set to run for the Sadulpur assembly constituency.

Minister of Child Empowerment of Rajasthan, Mamta Bhupesh will contest from Sikrai-SC seat.


The party has also named Bhanwar Singh Bhati, Manoj Meghwal, Amit Chachan, Rita Choudhary, Indraj Singh Gurjar, Lalt Kumar Yadav, Tikaram Julie as party candidates for the upcoming assembly elections.

The Congress is yet to declare candidates on a majority of seats as its Central Election Committee will meet on Sunday to finalise names for more seats.

Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party released its second list of 83 candidates today after announcing a first list of the 41 candidates for the elections.

The BJP's second list has former Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje who will contest from Jhalarpatan, senior BJP leader Rajendra Rathore is also in the fray from Taranagar. The names of the candidates were finalized at a meeting of its CEC that was chaired by the BJP President JP Nadda on October 1.

In the 2018 assembly elections the Congress won 99 seats while the BJP won 73 seats in the 200 member house. Ashok Gehlot came to power with the support of BSP MLAs and independents.

Rajasthan polls would take place on November 25 and votes would be counted on December 3. The Congress party is aiming for a consecutive second term in Rajasthan and has introduced pro-people schemes in the desert state.
