Ahead of assembly elections on November 25, Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday announced two "guarantees" - similar to what the party has promised in other election-bound states of Telangana and Madhya Pradesh. Gehlot said 1.05 crore families will get LPG cylinder at ₹500 if Congress is voted back to power. He made the announcement at a public rally in Jhunjhunu district's Ardawata village.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi also addressed the rally and said that the promises and schemes of the BJP-led government at the Centre are "hollow", whereas those framed by the Gehlot-led government in Rajasthan are being implemented on the ground.
"The (BJP) government speaks of women's reservation, but it will be delivered after 10 years, they talk about reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) but when Congress raised the issue of caste census, they went silent, and even they promised to complete the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project but nothing happened," Gandhi said.
"Their (BJP's) announcements are hollow but all the guarantees and promises made by the Congress government are executed on the ground," said Gandhi. She said BJP has understood that talking about religions and castes during polls will get them votes.
She said: "Those who do politics of religion, their accountability is over. At the time of elections, they (BJP) talk about religion as everyone's sentiment is connected with it."
