Two cabinet members, Malladi Krishna Rao from the regional party and A Namassivayam of the BJP, also took oath as ministers in the AINRC-led NDA government.
Puducherry LG K. Kailashnathan administered the oath of office and secrecy to N. Rangasamy and cabinet ministers. Rangasamy, a four-time chief minister, had split from the Congress to launch the AINRC in 2011. He has served twice as CM under the Congress and twice as the AINRC chief.
BJP National President Nitin Nabin also attended the oath ceremony.
The Puducherry UT comprises the former French establishments of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam.
In the Assembly elections, the 75-year-old leader contested for a fifth term from two constituencies - Thattanchavady and Mangalam. Of the 30 assembly constituencies, the ruling AINRC contested 16 seats, its ally BJP fought in 10, while AIADMK and LJK contested two seats each.
