Mohan Charan Majhi, a four-time MLA, will take the oath as Odisha's inaugural Chief Minister from the BJP today. Joining him in the swearing-in ceremony will be two deputy chief ministers: Pravati Parida, a first-time MLA, and Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, a six-term legislator. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 12, at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar.

KV Singh Deo

K V Singh Deo, elected for the sixth time from Patnagarh, is a seasoned politician with a rich legacy. A member of Patnagarh's erstwhile royal family, he has a long history in politics, having served as Minister of Industry and Public Enterprise under the BJP-BJD coalition government from 2000 to 2009. Singh Deo, a graduate of Delhi University, continues the political tradition of his family, with his grandfather R N Singh Deo having served as Odisha's chief minister from 1966 to 1971. His wife, Sangeeta Kumari Devi, is also a prominent political figure, serving four times as MP from Bolangir.

Singh Deo stated, "The new BJP government will work towards making Odisha the number one state in the country."

Pravati Parida

In contrast, Pravati Parida is a fresh face in the assembly, elected for the first time in 2024 from the Nimapara seat after three unsuccessful attempts. Parida's background is in law; she studied at Utkal University, becoming an advocate in the Orissa High Court in 1995 and later earning a post-graduate degree in public administration in 2005.

Expressing her gratitude, Parida said, "I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving me the opportunity to serve the state. We shall ensure that the promises made by the PM for youths, women, and farmers are realised at the ground level."

BJP's Historic Win in Odisha

The BJP's rise to power in Odisha marks a significant shift, ending the 24-year rule of the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD. The BJP secured 78 out of 147 assembly seats, a remarkable achievement reflecting the electorate's desire for change and development.

As the new government prepares to take office, the combination of Singh Deo's extensive political experience and Parida's fresh perspective is expected to drive the state's progress. The focus will be on delivering promises made to the youth, women, and farmers, aiming to transform Odisha into a leading state in the country.
