For the first time, women candidates have been elected to the Nagaland assembly. Salhoutuonuo Kruse and Hekani Jakhalu of NDPP won the Western Angami and Dimapur-III constituencies respectively.
Nagaland Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Temjen Imna Along on Thursday won the assembly election from Alongtaki constituency. The state BJP chief defeated Janata Dal (United) candidate J Lanu Longchar by a margin of 3,748 votes.
He bagged a total of 9,274 votes with a vote share of 62.5%.

For the second consecutive term, Congress drew a blank. Conrad Sangma's National People's Party and the Nationalist Congress Party won 5 and 7 seats, respectively. The Naga People's Front, LJP (Ram Vilas) and the Republican Party of India (Athawale) won 2 seats each. Independents won four seats, 2 and JDU 1. The ruling alliance had won 30 seats in the previous elections while NPF won 26. Later, 21 NPF MLAS joined NDPP. NPF became an alliance partner of NDPP and BJP, which ran an opposition-less United Democratic Alliance government since 2021.
