Mizoram elections: Police personnel on poll duty go missing in Saitual district

Search is on to locate the Assam policeman who went missing since Sunday during Mizoram election related duty in Saitual district.

A police official said on Wednesday night that Sabin Nath of the 9th battalion Assam Police, went missing on Sunday morning from Ngopa village in Saitual district along the Manipur border.

He said that 92 personnel including Nath of Assam Police reached Ngopa village last week for election related duty.


A senior police officer said that India Reserve Battalion of the Assam police along with Tripura State Rifles (TSR) were deployed for Tuesday's Mizoram assembly elections as part of the Central forces.

Polling for the 40-member Mizoram assembly was held peacefully and without any minor incident on Tuesday.

The Election Commission on Wednesday has directed re-polling in one polling station in Mizoram's Aizawl South-III constituency on Friday, officials said.

A senior election official said that the polling personnel in the Muallungthu polling station under Aizawl South-III constituency conducted the actual voting in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) without holding the mandatory mock-poll in the polling station on Tuesday.
