Former Union minister and All India Congress Committee (AICC) leader Jairam Ramesh, who unveiled the manifesto ahead of the state assembly elections scheduled for February 27, said that the cultural and independent identity of the state was under threat from the BJP.
The manifesto has also committed to providing free education to every girl child in Meghalaya in the K-12 group.
The party has promised to provide every BPL household with quality roofing material in phases. "Around Rs 500 crore will be provided as corpus fund for building infrastructure for religious gatherings," according to the manifesto. It has also proposed a state university that will provide market-ready courses.
"We will establish a dedicated State University with special focus on job-oriented and market-ready courses such as IoT (Internet of Things), blockchain technology, IT and IT-enabled Services," it said.
A Special Urban Police force which will be modern, people friendly and equipped to handle city-based crime scenarios using the latest technology and equipment, has also been proposed in the manifesto.
"We will provide 200 units of free power to each household with consumption expenditure below the poverty line (BPL)."
The party promised to provide a free LPG cylinder quarterly to each BPL household.
"We will create one job for every household in Meghalaya through promotion of mass entrepreneurship."
