BJP has claimed victory of regional parties as its own: Asom Jatiya Parishad
AJP stated that BJP has stated that it had successfully formed the new governments in the states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland is not entirely accurate. The political party has negligible presence in the three states, except for only in Tripura.
AJP stated that BJP has stated that it had successfully formed the new governments in the states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland is not entirely accurate. The political party has negligible presence in the three states, except for only in Tripura. Taking into consideration that the BJP is in alliance with regional formation in Nagaland and in Meghalaya although it fought alone it managed to win just 2 seats, we can safely say that the real political power still resides with the regional parties of Meghalaya and Nagaland.
AJP added that in Tripura, the BJP had won in 36 seats and its ally IPFT had won in 8 seats (total of 44 seats) in the 2018 assembly elections. But this time, it won only 32 seats and ally IPFT won just 1. On the other hand, the Tipra Motha, which contested for the first time in the state elections, secured 13 seats, which speaks volumes on its popularity and success in the state.
“In Nagaland, the BJP contested in 20 seats but had won only in 12 seats. By comparison it is actually regional political party in the state, NDPP, which has managed to win 25 seats to give the alliance a majority figure. Therefore, it is actually the NDPP that has any real influence in the state and not the BJP. “In Meghalaya, BJP before the elections levelled serious charges of corruption on the Conrad Sangma led government and decided to fight alone. It managed to secure just 2 seats. BJP false claims of popularity and power in the North East, the real power here has always resided with regional political parties, “AJP added.
Assam Jatiya Parishad extends its acknowledgement and congratulations to the NDDP and the NPP for their victory in the states of Nagaland and Meghalaya. AJP also congratulates Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman for TIPRA's stupendous performance in their fight for indigenous rights.
