Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai ahead of the November 20, 2024, Maharashtra Assembly election, Gandhi made several key pledges. He announced, “We will remove the 50 per cent cap on reservations,” emphasising this as a core commitment of the Congress party.
Gandhi described the upcoming election as a "battle of ideologies" between the wealthy elite and the underprivileged. He underscored the importance of a caste census, calling it the “biggest issue before us” and a “central pillar” of the party's policy agenda.
Addressing the Dharavi redevelopment project, Gandhi remarked, "Whatever Adani wants, he gets it," signaling concerns over corporate favoritism.
The Congress leader said that Rs 7 lakh crore projects including Foxconn and Airbus were shifted to Gujarat from Maharashtra. This led to youth in Maharashtra losing out on jobs, he added. The Maha Vikas Aghadi government will protect the interests of the people of Maharashtra, he said.
