Pune Assembly Elections 2024: In a Pawar vs Pawar fight, Pune is all set to see a second family battle unfold in the upcoming legislative assembly elections. The Nationalist Congress Party Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar factions are expected to pit against each other yet again after the Lok Sabha polls, especially in their family bastion of Baramati. One of the most important cities in Maharashtra, Pune holds not just important constituencies but also candidates, and a history of political power. The Election Commission is yet to announce Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election dates and schedule.

Pune Assembly Elections 2024: Key constituencies, parties, candidates

The district of Pune holds 21 constituencies among which Baramati, Shirur, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Wadgaonsheri, Hadapsar and Khadakwasla are key.

The competition in Pune’s Baramati is especially expected to get fierce as the Ajit Pawar (Mahayuti) and Sharad Pawar (Maha Vikash Aghadi) NCP faction’s will fight each other for their family seat. Ajit Pawar has hinted that his son Jay is likely to contest the elections in Baramati.


The other parties that are in the fray are the BJP and the Congress, among some smaller regional parties.

Key candidates to look out for are Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar, Supriya Sule, Sunetra Pawar, Shrirang Barne, Dr.Abhishek Vibhavari Vikram Bokey, Girish Bhalchandra Bapat, and Anil Gulabrao Shirole.

The Maharashtra Assembly is composed of 288 members who are directly elected from single-member constituencies, and the current term will be ending on November 26, 2024.

Pune Assembly Elections 2019 Result :

In the last state legislative assembly elections in 2019, the NCP had fought united and won the largest shares of votes at 33.5 percent. The BJP had ranked second with 32.2 percent votes, followed by the Shiv Sena, and the INC, with 10.3 percent and 8.8 percent votes respectively.

Total voters in Pune counted at 40,11,037.

Among the total 21 seats, the united NCP won 10, the BJP won 9, while the INC won 2.
