The counting of votes for the Palghar assembly seat in Maharashtra began today at 8 AM, marking the conclusion of the electoral process for the state’s 288 assembly constituencies. The elections, held on November 20, have drawn significant attention, especially for Palghar, a constituency with historical political importance.

In Palghar, as of 10: 00 am, Gavit Rajendra Dhedya from Shiva Sena was trailing behind Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Jayendra Kisan Dubla with a margin of 670 votes.

The Election Commission of India has begun releasing the early trends for several constituencies today, including Dahanu, Vikramgad, Palghar, Boisar, Nalasopara, and Vasai in Palghar district, as well as Mira Bhayander, Owala Majiwada, Kopri Pachpakhadi, Thane, Airoli, and Belapur in Thane district of Maharashtra.As per the early trends, Dr. Balaji Pralhad Kinikar from Eknath Shinde's faction of Shiv Sena is leading in the Thane constituency.

Key Candidates and Political Landscape

Palghar has been a Shiv Sena stronghold since 2014, with the constituency witnessing close contests in recent years. This year, the seat saw eight candidates in the fray, including major contenders Korda Naresh Lakshman (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena), Gavit Rajendra Dheya (Shiv Sena), and Jayendra Kisan Dubla (Shiv Sena-UBT). Other candidates include Jadhav Suresh Ganesh (Bahujan Samaj Party), Gopal Rajaram Koli (Lokrajya Party), Bhaskar Mahu Waghdada (Revolutionary Marxist Party of India), and two independent candidates.

Palghar, Thane Election Result: Past Election Outcomes

In the 2019 elections, Shrinivas Chintaman Vanga of the Shiv Sena emerged victorious, defeating INC's Yogesh Shankar Nam by a margin of 40,000 votes. Earlier, in 2014, Shiv Sena’s Ghoda Krushna Arjun won the seat by narrowly edging out Gavit Rajendra Dhedya of the INC by just 512 votes.

The Maharashtra assembly elections are being closely watched as the Mahayuti alliance (comprising BJP, NCP-Ajit Pawar, and Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde) faces off against the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (comprising Congress, NCP-Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena-UBT, and the Samajwadi Party).

With the polls held on November 20, the results of these elections will decide the composition of the new government in Maharashtra.
