Mumbai Assembly Elections 2024: In recent years, the Maharashtra state assembly has faced significant political crises, including unexpected coalition formations, internal party disputes, and defections within the ruling coalition, all of which have challenged the government's stability and led to shifts in alliances and power. The Election Commission is yet to announce Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election dates and schedule.

Mumbai Assembly Elections 2024 Constituencies

While there are 10 constituencies in Mumbai city, 26 assembly seats constitute Mumbai suburban. Key constituencies include Dharavi, Malabar Hills, Colabal, Versova, Borivali and Byculla.

Currently, the majority of the assembly constituency seats in the city are held by BJP and Shiv Sena members, with three held by the Indian National Congress, and one held by the Samajwadi Party.


The Maharashtra Assembly is composed of 288 members who are directly elected from single-member constituencies.

Mumbai Assembly Elections 2024: Key parties, candidates


The major contest will be seen between the Mahayuti alliance which holds the Eknath Shinde Shiv Sena, the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Ajit Pawar, and the Maha Vikash Aghadai constituting of the Indian National Congress, Shiv Sena - Uddhavbalasaheb Thackeray, the NCP- Sharad Pawar, and the Samajwadi Party.

Mumbai’s population in 2024 stands at 21,673,149 and thus makes it one of the most important locations for the assembly polls.

The current term of the Maharashtra State Assembly is set to conclude on November 26, 2024.

Mumbai Assembly Elections 2019 Results


In the 2019 polls, out of the 36 seats in Mumbai, the BJP had secured 15, the then united Shiv Sena won 14, Congress obtained five, and the NCP did not win any. The remaining two seats were claimed by the Samajwadi Party and AIMIM.

However, since then the Shiv Sena has split into two factions - Uddhavbalasaheb Thackeray headed by Uddhav Thackeray, and Eknath Shinde headed by Eknath Shinde, who is currently running the government in coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
