Mahim Election Results: UBT's Sawant defeats Amit Thackeray, Sada Sarvankar

Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Mahesh Sawant defeated Shinde Shiv Sena's Sada Sarvankar and Raj Thackeray's son Amit Thackeray in the Mahim constituency.

Thackeray was running against Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Mahesh Sawant and Shiv Sena's Sarvankar, who won the Mahim seat in 2014 and 2019. Sarvankar refused to withdraw from the race. MNS, Thackeray's party, allied with the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance.



This was Amit Thackeray's first foray into electoral politics, marking a significant step in continuing his family's political legacy. His cousin, Aditya Thackeray, son of Uddhav Thackeray, is already an active member of the Shiv Sena (UBT) party and a former minister.

While active in his father's party, Amit Thackeray has largely remained out of the public eye. “Culture is in-born; one cannot assume it,” he said last month, weeks after announcing his candidacy.


Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Mahesh Sawant had expressed confidence of winning the constituency.

"I will win the election comfortably. I don't consider Sada Sarvankar and Amit Thackeray as any challenge to me. I know that Sada Sarvankar was elected because of us. We used to work day and night for him during elections," Sawant had said.

Sawant was leading in the constituency by over 3,000 votes as of 11:15 am. Sarvankar was second and Thackeray was third.
