Mumbai: The Opposition-led Maha Vikas Aghadi has gone one step ahead of the ruling Mahayuti government in announcing freebies for the Maharashtra assembly polls.

In a joint rally of Congress, NCP-SP, UBT Sena, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge announced the five poll 'guarantees' in Mumbai. The first guarantee is that ₹3,000 would be given to women in the state per month under the 'Mahalaxmi Yojana' if the MVA is voted to power.

Currently, under the Mahayuti government, ₹1,500 is paid to women per month. Under Mahayuti government, women are allowed to travel in state buses at half the rates.

The MVA is now offering it to be made free for women to travel in state buses. Announcing the guarantee, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that while the Mahayuti government had put ₹1,500 in women's accounts, it was taking out ₹90,000 per year from people through taxes and increase in fuel prices.

Announcing the second guarantee, NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar said that they would give a farm loan waiver upto ₹3 lakh under the Krishi Samrudhi Yojana. Pawar said that those farmers who are paying their loans regularly will be given ₹50,000 as financial assistance.

Uddhav Thackeray announced a guarantee pertaining to youths.

"We will give free education to youths also. Those youths who are unemployed will get ₹4,000 per month. The youths are our future and hence we need to support them," he said.

He added that the Dharavi slum development scheme will be scrapped the moment MVA comes to power. The other guarantees include families getting ₹25 lakh as health insurance. Also, people approaching government hospitals for treatment would get free medicines.

The other guarantee speaks about conducting a caste census in the state as well as working to remove the 50% limit on reservations.
