Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala General Education Minister V Sivankutty on Friday dismissed claims of anti-incumbency against the ruling LDF, saying there was no visible wave or strong sentiment among the people against the government.

Sivankutty was in a triangular contest with BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Congress leader K S Sabarinadhan in the Nemom constituency in Thiruvananthapuram.

He claimed that even surveys conducted by the opposition UDF and the BJP have indicated that attempts to create an anti-incumbency narrative could backfire.

"There is no such sentiment among the people. They did not raise it fearing that it may turn against them," he said.

Highlighting the government's performance, Sivankutty said the LDF administration has been effective in implementing its decisions and remains accessible to ordinary citizens.

He pointed out that the government has taken a favourable stand on welfare measures, including increasing pensions and extending new benefits.

"The general perception among common people is that this is a government that stands with them and addresses their concerns," he said.

Expressing confidence in the LDF's prospects, the minister said these factors would help the ruling front retain power in the state.

Referring to a recent roadshow of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the constituency, Sivankutty claimed that only a small number of residents participated, while the rest were brought in vehicles to create an impression of support.
