Palakkad is shaping up into one of Kerala’s most closely watched triangular contests, with the Congress banking on actor-comedian Ramesh Pisharody’s popularity, the CPI(M) fielding businessman NMR Razak to consolidate minority and grassroots support, and the BJP once again turning to veteran leader Sobha Surendran in a constituency where it has historically remained competitive.

The constituency remains under traction since Rahul Mamkootathil won from the seat in a by-election in 2024. Mamkootathil was later expelled from the Congress party over multiple instances of sexual predation.
