Out of 38 seats, the JMM won 13 seats while the BJP could win 12 seats in 2019. Congress won 8 seats and together JMM and Congress took a lead with 21 seats out of 38. For the JMM-led alliance, the challenge is to hold ground in the Santhal region where it won 14 out of 18 seats in 2019. The high-profile seat of Hemant Soren, Barhait, will also go for polls in the second phase. Hemant Soren's wife Kalpana Soren is also contesting from Gandey seat.
Jama and Jamtara are other high-profile seats headed for a close battle. In Jama, former BJP leader. now with JMM, Louis Marandi is contesting against BJP's Suresh Murmu. In 2019, JMM's Sita Soren won from the seat. Sita Soren is now with BJP and is contesting from Jamtara giving a challenge to Congress leader Irfan Ansari.
For the NDA, the challenge is to make gains in Santhal as well as hold their winning streak on the urban seats.
