New Delhi: As Jharkhand assembly elections are getting closer, NDA ally All Jharkhand Student Union (AJSU) leader Sudesh Mahto is in Delhi to discuss seat sharing agreement with the BJP. This is Mahto's second visit in a week's time.

Earlier on September 23, Sudesh Mahto met Union minister Amit Shah and BJP Jharkhand co-incharge Himanta Biswa Sarma in Delhi. The BJP wants to finalise the seat sharing deals with allies in Jharkhand ahead of assembly polls.

Jharkhand has 81 assembly constituencies and BJP is willing to give seven to eight seats to AJSU. NDA ally in Bihar, JDU also is willing to contest Jharkhand assembly elections in alliance with the BJP.

In 2019, the AJSU contested 52 seats alone and was not in alliance with the BJP. "This time we will contest elections in alliance. It is not about us. It is the demand of the people of Jharkhand," Sudesh Mahto told ET.

In all, the BJP wants to give a maximum of 10 seats to the allies and it will contest on the remaining 71 seats.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the state on October 2 to join the culmination of Parivartan Yatra programme in Hazaribagh.
