Srinagar: A select panel of banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), which is supporting some of the Independents in the ongoing assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday said that it would have fielded candidates on at least 50 seats, if the ban on the organisation was revoked.

Four independent candidates contesting with the support of the select panel of JeI from northern Kashmir, include Dr Kaleemullah from Langate, Manzoor Ahmad Kaloo from Sopore, Abdul Rehman Shalla of Baramulla and Nazir Ahmad Mir of Rafiabad.

The third and the last phase of assembly elections is scheduled to be held on October 1, in which 40 seats are going for polls, including 24 in Jammu division and 16 in Kashmir division.
