Elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held after a decade and the National Conference came out victorious with 42 seats, and a total of 48 seats as an alliance with the Congress. This was a massive increase from 2014, where the NC won just 15 seats and Congress had 12. Even though the BJP lost the election, they gained four seats in the Union territory.

Margin of victory in the election was big as majority of the candidates won with a margin of 10,000 votes and above.
