SRINAGAR: Apni Party led by Altaf Bukhari on Monday announced its support for former Congress leader Taj Mohiuddin, who is fighting the assembly elections from Uri constituency of north Kashmir as an independent.

Bukhari said the ongoing campaign is at a critical stage and his party wants to ensure that "political stalwarts enter the assembly in J&K" to ensure it is a strong platform, which can make an impact.

Mohiuddin, a former minister, had deserted Congress in 2022 and joined the Democratic Progressive Azad Party of Ghulam Nabi Azad. However, in August this year, Mohiuddin, announced his disengagement from Azad's party as well and announced to contest elections from Baramulla's Uri as an independent.

"In this election, political consolidation is important. We want to make this election exciting," said Bukhari.
