After Kishtwar, encounters in Jammu region's Poonch, Kathua

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir witnessed encounters between terrorists and security forces in Poonch and Kathua districts on Sunday.

The encounter in Pathanateer area near Gursai top in Mendhar sub-division of Poonch started late Saturday night and continued till late Sunday afternoon. An infiltrator is believed to have been injured, officials said, adding that the exchange of fire in the area has ended and they have seen some blood stains near the site of the gunfight. Search operation is going on to trace militants.

The encounter in Kathua started in a remote area of Nuknali in Bani area on Sunday afternoon when a police search party came under heavy fire, triggering an exchange of fire which continued till late evening.


Police officials informed that armed forces were immediately rushed to the spot and a multilayer cordon was laid in the area to prevent the infiltrators from fleeing the area. The officials claim that more than two infiltrators could be present in the area.

Earlier, two army men were killed and two others injured in Kishtwar district on Friday. In Kashmir, three militants were killed on Saturday in Pattan area of Baramulla in northern Kashmir. Officials maintain that "highly trained foreign intruders" remain a challenge.
