Nayab Singh Saini will take oath as the 20th chief minister of Haryana on Thursday in Chandigarh, a day after being unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party in the state. BJP MLA Krishan Kumar Bedi proposed Saini's name and it was seconded by senior party leader Anil Vij.

Union home minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav attended the meeting as central observers. After the meeting, Saini staked claim to form the next government in Haryana. It will be his second term as he replaced Manohar Lal as CM in March this year. In a departure from the BJP's tradition, the party has not announced any deputy chief minister for the state.

Shah congratulated Saini on behalf of PM Narendra Modi and party workers. He credited the Modi government's policies for the BJP's victory in Haryana. The swearing-in ceremony on Thursday afternoon is set to be a mega show of strength by the NDA, as PM Modi, Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, among others, and CMs of all NDA-ruled states, including Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu will attend the ceremony.
