Gujarat elections: PM Modi's action packed 72 hours, here are the details

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will head to his home state Gujarat this weekend and is expected to participate in at least eight programmes across the state from Saurashtra to Surat.

The major highlight of the tour is Modi's visit to Somnath Temple.

On November 19, after landing the Prime Minister will address a rally in Valsad.


On November 20, after visiting the Somnath Temple, PM is scheduled to address four rallies in the Saurashtra region.

Reportedly, the venues have been finalised at Veraval, Dhorarji, Amreli and Botad. Notably, in the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP did not win a single seat in these assembly constituencies in Saurashtra.

On Day 3, PM will hold three rallies in Surendranagar, Bharuch and Navsari.

Earlier, Bharuch was the constituency of Ahmed Patel but now the BJP state president CR Patil who hails from Navsari has been winning this Lok Sabha seat with huge margins.

Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Navsari on November 21.

Modi is also expected to have a closed-door meeting with the state leaders during his stay.

More than 1.5 lakh people are expected to participate in these rallies, reports said.

Out of the 182 assembly seats in the state, 48 are in this region, where polling is to be held in the first phase on December 1.

In 2017, Congress won 28 seats in the Saurashtra region mainly due to the Patidar movement and the number of BJP MLAs had come down from 30 in 2012 to just 19.

Voting for 182 seats for the assembly election will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5.
