Gujarat elections 2022: Congress releases second list of 46 candidates

The Congress has released its second list of 46 candidates for elections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly.

Arjanbhai Bhudia from Bhuj, Bhikhabhai Joshi from Junagadh, Aslam Cyclewala from Surat East, Ashokbhai Patel from Surat North and Kamlkumar Patel from Valsad are among the candidates named in the second list released on Thursday evening.

Also in the list are Mamadbhai Jung Jat (Abdasa), Rajendersingh Jadeja (Mandvi), Arjanbhai Bhudia (Bhuj), Naushad Solanki (Dasada - SC), Kalpana Karamsibhai Makwana (Limbdi).


Three women leaders - Kalpana Karamsibhai Makwana from Limbdi, Jermaben Sukhlal Vasava from Dediapada -ST, and Bharti Prakash Patel from Karanj - are in the list..

With this, the total number of candidates declared so far by the party is 89. The first list released last week had 43 candidates. The ruling BJP has already announced candidates for 160 out of 182 seats.

Elections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes will be taken up on December 8. While the BJP will be trying to continue its electoral success of the past several elections, the Congress would be looking to unseat the saffron party. This time the aggressive campaign of AAP has added a third dimension.
