Gujarat Assembly elections Phase-2: From cricketers to governors to royals, who all went to vote

With Gujarat Assembly elections coming to an end at 5 pm, the second phase of polls recorded 58.68% per cent voter turnout on Monday.

The polling for 93 seats across 14 districts of north and central regions began at 8 am across 14,975 polling stations.

Among the former Indian cricketers, Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan with their family members casted their votes at a polling booth in Vadodara. Both brothers urged people to come out in large numbers to vote.


Former Indian Cricketer Nayan Mongia was also among them.

Physically challenged Ankit Soni, who was born without arms, took everyone by surprise as he used his toes to sign a form at the polling booth and push the button on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in Nadiad town of Kheda district.

Erstwhile royal Rajmata Shubhanginiraje Gaekwad exersided her vote in Vadodara. She said, "Voting is our right. I appeal to everyone to exercise their franchise. There is no right without responsibility."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben Modi casted her vote for the second phase of the Gujarat Assembly polls. She cast her vote in the Raysan Primary School in Gandhinagar.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief ministerial candidate Isudan Gadhvi also voted and said that he expects his party to win over 100 seats.

Speaking to the media after casting his vote, Gadhvi appealed to the people to step out of their homes and use their voting rights.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel votes in Ahmedabad and Delhi Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and his wife cast their votes for the second phase of Gujarat Assembly Polls, in Ahmedabad.


Hardik Patel casted the vote, said BJP will win 150 seats.


Bed-ridden people, patients on oxygen support, senior citizens including centenarians, and transgender persons were among those who came out to vote in the Gujarat Assembly elections second phase, setting an example for others to exercise their democratic right.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accompanied by his wife Sonalben Shah and son Jay Shah, also cast his vote in Naranpura area of the city, where he used to live before moving to Thaltej area.
