Ghatlodia: Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel registers record victory with a margin of 2 lakh

Ghatlodia, which falls under the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, came into existence after the delimitation in 2008. The seat was won by former CM Anandiben Patel in 2012 and Bhupendra Patel in 2017.

Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel registered second straight win in Ghatlodia with a huge margin of nearly 2 lakh votes against the Congress candidate Amiben Yagnik.

Patidar-dominated Ghatlodia is a BJP stronghold which falls under the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. The seat has given two chief ministers - Bhupendra Patel and Anandiben Patel - to the state. It is a stronghold of BJP.

In 2017, despite the Patidar quota agitation, Bhupendra Patel had won the seat with a huge margin of 1.17 lakh votes.


Ghatlodia came into existence after the delimitation in 2008. The seat was won by former CM Anandiben Patel in 2012 and Bhupendra Patel in 2017.

In the 2017 Assembly elections, BJP leader Bhupendra Patel defeated Congress candidate Shashikant Bhurabhai by a margin of 1,17,750 votes.

In the 2012 Assembly elections, BJP's Anandiben Patel defeated Rameshbhai Patel by a margin of 1,10,395 vote.

With top BJP leaders having made clear that Bhupendra Patel will be chief minister again if the BJP wins the elections, the result and margin in Ghatlodia will be viewed with a lot of interest.

The constituency had recorded a voter turnout of 68.71% in 2017 and 72.50% in 2012.

The assembly seat represents the following segments.

Ahmedabad City Taluka (Part) Villages – Tragad, Ghatlodiya (M), Memnagar (M).

Daskroi Taluka (Part) Villages – Lapkaman, Lilapur, Khodiyar, Chharodi, Jagatpur, Hebatpur, Bhadaj, Shilaj, Chenpur, Oganaj, Ghuma, Sola, Bodakdev, Ambli, Gota (CT), Thaltej (CT), Bopal (CT).

Assembly elections in Gujarat are scheduled for two phases on December 1 and December 5. Votes will be counted on December 8.
