Congress has launched five yatras across five zones of Gujarat, which will go to the polls by the yearend. BJP has already carried out five yatras across 182 assembly seats, apart from a myriad of public meetings which were addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders of the party.

The Congress yatras were postponed for a day in the wake of the collapse of the suspension bridge in Morbi on Sunday evening that led to the death of 136 people. The yatras were initiated from Bhuj in Kutch, Somnath in Saurashtra, Vadgam in North Gujarat, Balasinor in central Gujarat and Jambusar in South Gujarat.

The first yatra that started from Bhuj will end in Rajkot, the second will travel to Ahmedabad city, the third one from Vadgam will go to Gandhinagar, the fourth will travel to Chota Udaipur and the last one from Jambusar will end at Valsad. The party intends to cover about 5,432 km across 175 assembly seats, through the five yatras. It will hold 145 public meetings and 95 rallies during the yatra. Senior Congress leaders including Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, Chhattishgarh CM Bhupesh Bhagel and former Madhya Pradesh CMs Digvijaya Singh and Kamal Nath are scheduled to participate in the yatras.
