"The prime minister cannot say that he has given you jobs, employment. I fixed your problems. I stole your last government. He can't say all this. Hence, he has to distract you from these issues," Gandhi alleged.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's allegation that Jawaharlal Nehru 'did not help freedom fighters of Goa' was because Modi 'did not understand history', Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said. "The sad fact is that the prime minister does not understand the history of those times. He does not understand in detail what was going on after World War II," Gandhi said at a news conference in Panaji on Friday.

Modi raised the issue of Goa's liberation to 'divert attention' from real issues, he alleged. "The prime minister cannot say that he has given you jobs, employment. I fixed your problems. I stole your last government. He can't say all this. Hence, he has to distract you from these issues," Gandhi alleged.

He stirred clear on the hijab issue in neighbouring Karnataka. "I would not like to get into any kind of conversation that will distract the people of Goa. My mission is to focus on what is important for the people of Goa," he said.
