Counting of votes for the Delhi assembly polls started on Saturday to decide whether the AAP comes to power for a fourth term or the BJP forms a government in the national capital after 27 years. The Congress is also looking for some gains after drawing a blank in the last two elections.
Despite trailing for a long time, Chief Minister Atishi secured a victory over BJP rival Ramesh Bidhuri in Kalkaji, winning by a margin of 3,521 votes, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI) website.
As per ECI data, Atishi received 52,154 votes, while Bidhuri polled 48,633 votes. Congress' Alka Lamba finished third with 4,392 votes.
This marks Atishi’s second consecutive win from the Kalkaji Assembly seat.
She is among the few AAP ministers and senior leaders who managed to secure a victory, as most of the party’s top leaders—including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Saurabh Bharadwaj—suffered defeats.

Areas including Maharani Bagh, Ishwar Nagar, New Friends Colony, Bharat Nagar, Sarai Jullena, Sukhdev Vihar, Sriniwaspuri, East of Kailash, Garhi East of Kailash, Shyam Nagar, Kalkaji, Giri Nagar, and Govindpuri are part of the Kalkaji constituency.
The counting process begin at 8 am. According to the Election Commission, 60.54 per cent votes were polled on Wednesday.

The Kalkaji Assembly segment in south Delhi, despite its affluence, yearns for congestion-free roads, proper sanitation facilities and upkeep of civic infrastructure ahead of the February 5 polls. Represented by Atishi, who has been renominated by the AAP, the seat is set to witness a high-stakes showdown with BJP heavyweight and former MP Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress' Alka Lamba also in the fray.

The AAP established its dominance in Delhi's political map routing both the BJP and Congress in 2015 Assembly polls, winning 67 of the 70 Assembly seats.
The party again formed its government in 2020, winning 62 seats and decimating the opposition BJP and Congress.
A victory for the AAP will establish Kejriwal's dominance in Delhi and enhance his political stature nationally.
However, if the BJP wins the polls, it will not only be back to power in Delhi after a long gap of 27 years, but also succeed in breaking the spell of AAP and Kejriwal that it has been vying for a decade.
The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years in a row till 2013, is striving to stage a comeback after failing to win a single seat in the previous two elections.
