AAP accused the Bharatiya Janata Party behind the attack and claimed that Kejriwal was attacked by the "people" of BJP candidate Parvesh Verma who was also campaigning at that time.

While BJP candidate Pravesh Verma was campaigning, goons of BJP candidate Pravesh Verma attacked Arvind Kejriwal with bricks and stones and tried to hurt him so that he could not campaign. Responding to AAP's claim of an attack on Arvind Kejriwal during a campaign in New Delhi, BJP leader Parvesh Verma alleged that three unemployed youths—Vishal, Abhishek, and Rohit—tried to approach Kejriwal near Lal Bahadur Sadan at Gole Market to discuss job concerns. Verma claimed that Punjab police personnel accompanying Kejriwal beat the youths and alleged that Kejriwal instructed his driver to run the vehicle over them.
