New Delhi: In yet another promise before the Delhi Assembly election, Congress on Sunday announced a scheme titled 'Yuva Udaan Yojana', proposing to pay the unemployed youth of the national capital a monthly apprenticeship stipend of ₹8,500 for a year by placing them in local industries if the party forms the government in Delhi.

"The people of Delhi are going to elect a new government on February 5... We are going to present some guarantees for the people of Delhi. Today, our party has decided that we will provide Rs 8,500 per month to the youths of Delhi who are educated but unemployed for a period of 1 year. This is not just financial help. We will try to get them absorbed in the industry in which they have been trained", said AICC general secretary Sachin Pilot while announcing the scheme here.

In its election manifesto for the last Lok Sabha election, the party had promised an apprenticeship scheme for the youth on similar lines. Pilot said 'Yuva Udaan Yojana' is not meant as a freebee, but for helping the educated unemployed youth get a footing by finding them placement in local industrial units, which will pay them the promised stipend, and that in case some are unable to find placement, then the Delhi government will find a way to help them with this stipend.

Maintaining that the Congress will fight the Assembly election to win and form the government in Delhi, Pilot accused the BJP-led central government and AAP's Delhi government of wasting their time in blaming each other and not addressing the unemployment issues of Delhi's youth.

"The BJP and AAP only care about levelling allegations against each other. That's why we are bringing in a new vision", said the Congress leader, adding that while party leader Rahul Gandhi will address a Congress campaign rally here on Monday, the AICC and PCC leaders and Congress leaders from Delhi's neighbouring states will participate in the Congress campaign for the Delhi polls.
