With former Delhi CM and AAP chief Kejriwal accusing the BJP-led central government of deleting the Purvanchali voters from electoral roll in Delhi, the BJP on Sunday fielded Bihar deputy CM Samrat Choudhary to counter Kejriwal's claims.

"There has been a constant attempt by Kejriwal to confuse the people of Delhi, especially those who are from Purvanchal. The AAP leader is equating Purvanchal voters with Bangladeshis and Rohingyas which is incorrect," Choudhary told media persons.

The BJP leader added that during Covid, the same person (Kejriwal) said that people of UP and Bihar should go back to their states as there is no place for their treatment in Delhi. "This led to a mass migration from Delhi creating chaos and resulting in loss of lives. I appeal to the people of Purvanchal to beware of such people and parties," he added. Talking about Bihar, Choudhary said that BJP national president JP Nadda was born and brought up in Bihar, and today he represents Himachal Pradesh.

Ahead of upcoming assembly elections, the Purvanchal voters have become important for all political parties.

There are around 40 lakh Purvanchal voters in Delhi and have a strong presence in about 17 to 20 assembly seats.

The BJP has a special Purvanchal Morcha in Delhi as a separate wing of the party. BJP Northeast Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari comes from the Purvanchal region and has worked as state BJP president in the past. There is a fierce competition among the AAP and the BJP to attract Purvanchali voters. As the election draws closer, the BJP will deploy several leaders from UP and Bihar to work in the Delhi elections.

The BJP has also planned to give a few seats to its NDA allies from Bihar like the JDU and LJP in the upcoming Delhi polls to make inroads into the Purvanchal vote bank.
