New Delhi: Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has written a letter to Delhi chief minister Atishi Marlena accusing the AAP government of overlooking the welfare of farmers in the capital city. In his letter, Chouhan expressed deep concern over the plight of farmers in Delhi.

The Union minister alleged that the Delhi government has failed to make decisions that benefit the farmers. He further criticised the government for prioritising political gains over the implementation of welfare schemes and called for cooperative governance to address the needs of farmers.

In his letter, Chouhan accused the Delhi government of not implementing central schemes such as the Integrated Horticulture Mission, Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, Seed Village Program, Agricultural Mechanization, and Traditional Agriculture Development Scheme. "As a result, farmers are deprived of subsidies, modern agricultural equipment, seed testing facilities, and other benefits," the letter said.

Chouhan said that sometimes ago the farmers of Delhi met him and highlighted the issues faced by them. "The central government is ready to provide funds for various schemes but the absence of proposals from the state government has prevented farmers from benefiting from these initiatives... Farmers in Delhi are unable to benefit from central government schemes such as the 'Seed Village Scheme,' 'Per Drop More Crop,' 'Micro Irrigation Scheme,' among others," he further said in his letter. In many schemes, the central government provides 60% of the funds, and the state government needs to contribute 40%. Without the state's participation, the implementation of schemes is not possible.

Chouhan added that both the central and state governments must work together, rising above political differences, for the welfare of farmers. "It is crucial to ensure that political rivalry does not hinder the interests of farmers," the Union minister said.
